What does 10 mil mean, and how does it compare with 8 mil?
A mil is one-thousandth of an inch. Standard ULTIMATE PLUS is nominally 8 mil, approximately 0.008 inch. ULTIMATE PLUS 10 is nominally 10 mil, approximately 0.010 inch. That is 25% more thickness, not a measured 25% improvement in protection.
When is additional thickness useful?
Frequent highway mileage, repeated track sessions, gravel, loose surfaces and off-road driving can make added film thickness useful. Tire width and vehicle shape help identify the front-end and lower-body areas you want to protect.
Will it change my paint’s appearance, and does it self-heal?
ULTIMATE PLUS 10 is clear gloss film that keeps the original paint color visible. Its self-healing topcoat can soften fine scratches and swirl marks with warmth. Self-healing does not repair the paint underneath or deep cuts and punctures in the film.
Can I combine standard and 10 mil PPF?
Yes. We can use 10 mil on selected impact areas and standard 8 mil ULTIMATE PLUS elsewhere. You can also request broader or full painted-body 10 mil coverage, with vehicle-specific suitability and finishing confirmed before installation.
Which panels can I protect, including headlights?
Common choices include the front bumper, hood, fenders, rockers, mirrors, A-pillars, leading roof and areas behind the wheels. Trucks may also benefit from lower-door, flare and bedside coverage. We review headlight coverage separately for your vehicle and lens condition.
How is hydrophobic PPF different from thicker PPF?
Film thickness and water repellency describe different features. ULTIMATE PLUS 10 adds thickness, while ULTIMATE FUSION includes a water-repelling surface designed to make cleaning easier.
Can a ceramic coating go over 10 mil PPF?
Yes. A compatible coating can complement the film with water repellency and easier cleaning. We confirm a product suited to your film and care routine.
Can damaged film be replaced or removed?
An affected section can often be replaced panel by panel. Professional removal is recommended. Repainted, repaired or poorly bonded paint can carry additional removal risk, so we review the starting condition before work.
What warranty and follow-up support are included?
Qualifying ULTIMATE PLUS 10 installations carry XPEL’s 10-year limited manufacturer warranty, subject to product terms and exclusions. Kickin’ Customs workmanship coverage requires the complimentary three-week inspection. The separate replacement benefit has its own written eligibility terms.
How much does a 10 mil installation cost, and how long does it take?
We provide a vehicle-specific quote based on the panels, film combination, paint condition, preparation and finishing work. Extended, mixed-film and full-body projects may take multiple days. We confirm timing and pricing with your quote.
Can I request a quote without choosing coverage?
Yes. Enter your year, make and model, and add any areas of concern in the optional notes. We’ll help you choose the coverage and confirm the installation price.
What are the limits of PPF protection?
PPF helps reduce many chips, scuffs and road-rash marks. Severe impacts can cut or puncture the film and damage paint underneath. It does not prevent dents or collision damage, and it does not repair damage already present.
Will every edge be hidden and every emblem removed?
We plan accessible wrapped edges around the panel design. We remove emblems where applicable. Other disassembly is confirmed for your vehicle.
Where will my installation take place?
All installations take place at Kickin’ Customs, 244 North Main Street, Raynham, MA 02767. We serve Southeastern Massachusetts, the South Shore, Taunton and Bridgewater areas, Plymouth County, the Attleboro area and Rhode Island. Call 617-431-6858 or use the quote form to plan your visit.
