What Is XPEL PRIME Window Tint?

XPEL PRIME is a family of automotive films professionally applied to compatible vehicle glass. Your product choice determines the balance of appearance, privacy and heat performance; coverage identifies the windows being tinted, and shade describes visible-light transmission.

At our Raynham shop, we help drivers throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island choose those three elements around their vehicle and daily use.

Three Film Options. Three Different Priorities.

Choose an XPEL PRIME film around your comfort, privacy and appearance priorities.

XPEL PRIME COLOR STABLE

Clean Appearance and Privacy

XPEL XPEL PRIME COLOR STABLE illustration

Color Stable is a professionally installed dyed film for a finished appearance, daytime privacy, glare reduction and UV filtering. Its purpose is different from the ceramic films; choosing it does not mean choosing a low-quality product.

Good fit: Appearance, privacy and value are your main priorities.

XPEL PRIME XR BLACK

Balanced Ceramic Performance

XPEL XPEL PRIME XR BLACK illustration

XR Black adds ceramic heat rejection for a meaningful comfort upgrade at a practical price. It suits daily driving when you want stronger heat performance without moving to the highest PRIME tier.

Good fit: You want a balance of ceramic comfort and package cost.

XPEL PRIME XR PLUS

Maximum PRIME Ceramic Performance

XPEL XPEL PRIME XR PLUS illustration

XR Plus uses multilayer nano-ceramic technology for the highest PRIME ceramic performance. Consider it for long commutes, frequent sun exposure or large glass areas when stronger heat control matters most.

Good fit: You want maximum PRIME heat control for long drives, frequent sun exposure or a cabin with large glass areas.

All three have their own shade choices. We confirm the product, measured glass, compatibility and exact coverage before installation. Performance varies by shade and measurement, so compare the specific films being considered.

Similar Light Transmission, Different Heat Performance

These three examples let through a similar amount of visible light, but reject different amounts of solar energy.

VLT: visible light transmission
How much visible light passes through the tested glass and film.
TSER: total solar energy rejection
How much total solar energy is rejected under the test conditions. Use this for the main heat-performance comparison.
IR rejection and IRER
These concern infrared energy, not all solar energy. This sheet measures IR rejection at 1025 nm; IRER spans 780–2500 nm and accounts for absorbed and reradiated energy. Neither is interchangeable with TSER.

Darker Does Not Always Mean Cooler

Shade controls visible-light transmission, appearance and daytime privacy. Film technology affects heat-rejection performance. A lighter ceramic film can outperform a darker non-ceramic film for heat reduction.

Choose a view you are comfortable living with after sunset, then compare the film performance. Tint reduces incoming solar energy; it does not keep a parked vehicle cold or replace air conditioning.

What Matters Beyond the Shade

Start With the Purpose

Color Stable is a purpose-built dyed film for appearance and privacy. XR Black and XR Plus use ceramic technology for stronger solar heat rejection. Choose around the job you want the film to do, rather than treating darkness as a quality rating.

Keep a Clear Outward View

Optical clarity matters in changing light, and even a clear-looking film reduces some visible light. Consider nighttime driving, mirrors and existing glass when choosing a shade, not just daytime privacy.

Stay Connected

XPEL’s non-metallic ceramic films are designed to avoid metal-based interference with common radio, cellular and Bluetooth signals. We still review the vehicle’s sensors, antennas and accessories when planning coverage.

Match the Film to Your Glass

The right film also needs the right installation. Glass construction, condition and existing coatings affect suitability, especially on windshields and panoramic roofs. Product choice, preparation and vehicle-specific installation work together.

Choose Around Your Driving, Not Just Your Vehicle

Appearance First

Consider Color Stable when you want daytime privacy and a coordinated look. We review factory rear glass and outward visibility before selecting a shade.

Everyday Comfort

Compare XR Black when sun through the glass makes daily driving uncomfortable and you want a practical ceramic upgrade.

More Sun, More Glass

Compare XR Plus for frequent outdoor parking, long commutes or large glass areas. Your priorities, not a luxury badge, decide whether the higher tier is worthwhile.

The Right Film Still Needs the Right Installation

XPEL PRIME Performance Depends on the Process Behind It

XPEL PRIME gives us the film options, clarity, and ceramic performance we want to stand behind. The final result still depends on how the film is installed.

Proper glass preparation, vehicle-specific pattern selection, careful seal handling, and precise finishing all affect how the tint looks and performs once it is on the vehicle.

Modern vehicles can bring additional considerations, including frameless glass, tight window seals, large rear windows, panoramic roofs, defroster lines, and sensitive electronics. The installation approach should fit the vehicle, not rely on a one-size-fits-all process.

At Kickin’ Customs, we use plotter-cut patterns where appropriate and hand-finish areas that require additional attention. We also walk customers through shade options in person so the final choice fits both the vehicle and the way it will be used.

The goal is simple: pair the right XPEL PRIME film with an installation that looks right, performs as expected, and holds up over time.

Warranty and Shop Support Are Separate

Qualifying, professionally installed XPEL PRIME film has limited manufacturer coverage for specified film defects for the life of the vehicle. Transfer requires the new owner to submit proof of the original installation date to XPEL and covers only the remaining original warranty period. Repair or replacement does not restart that period.

Qualifying packages also include our separate three-year Window Film Replacement Benefit for one eligible roll-down side-window film replacement. Original customer and vehicle requirements apply; glass is excluded.

A Little Patience Protects the Finish

Keep movable windows up for 2–3 days in summer temperatures consistently above 80°F, 3–5 days in moderate weather, or 5–7 days in winter conditions. Take the same precaution with the rear defroster: keep it off for the same length of time. Follow any vehicle-specific instructions provided at pickup. Haze or moisture can take 1–2 weeks to clear, sometimes longer in cold or damp weather.

Wait seven days before routine cleaning of the film-facing inside glass. If cleaning is necessary sooner, use a tint-safe, ammonia-free cleaner and a clean, soft microfiber towel. Wipe with very low pressure, take extra care at film edges, and avoid scrubbing or soaking them.

More Questions Before Choosing Your Film

Is XPEL Color Stable a lower-quality film?

No. Color Stable is a dyed film designed for appearance, privacy and UV filtering. It serves a different priority from the ceramic films, which provide stronger solar heat rejection.

What is the difference between XR Black and XR Plus?

Both are nano-ceramic films. XR Black balances heat performance and cost; XR Plus is the highest-performance PRIME ceramic tier. Compare the specific shade and measurement rather than assuming every number improves by the same amount.

Does a darker shade always reject more heat?

No. Darkness describes visible-light transmission. Heat rejection also depends on film technology, so compare TSER at similar measured VLT values instead of judging performance by appearance alone.

Can lighter ceramic tint still reduce heat?

Yes. Lighter ceramic films can reject a meaningful amount of solar energy while preserving a more open appearance. The suitable film and shade still depend on the vehicle glass, available products and applicable legal requirements.

Will XPEL ceramic window tint interfere with vehicle electronics?

XPEL describes its non-metallic ceramic films as designed to avoid metal-based signal interference. We still assess the vehicle’s glass, sensors, antennas and accessories before choosing where to install film.

Does ceramic tint replace air conditioning?

No. It reduces solar heat entering through the glass but does not replace climate control or keep a parked vehicle cold.

Can the same film go on every piece of glass?

Compatibility, glass construction, existing coatings, sensors and the requested installation must be reviewed. Windshield and roof glass are assessed separately.

Will the tint exactly match my factory rear glass?

We can compare samples for a coordinated appearance, but factory glass, lighting, interior color and film construction affect the match. An exact visual match is not guaranteed.

Does choosing a film confirm that its shade is legal?

No. Nominal film shade is not the final measured glass-and-film result. Registration state, glass position, vehicle class and applicable requirements need review.

Can I compare shades before making a final decision?

Yes. We can compare physical samples and discuss appearance, nighttime visibility and heat performance at our Raynham shop before finalizing your film.

Does the manufacturer warranty cover accidental scratches?

Manufacturer coverage concerns qualifying film defects. Physical or accidental damage is reviewed separately, including any applicable written shop replacement-benefit terms.

Better Heat Rejection. Better Comfort. Better Everyday Driving.

XPEL PRIME window tint gives you more than a darker appearance. It helps reduce heat and glare, protect the interior from UV exposure, and make your vehicle more comfortable.
