Need footage from an incident?
Get to a safe location and take care of any immediate assistance first. Once you are safely parked, note the approximate time and save the relevant recordings promptly. A clip that appears in an app, an event notification, or a file marked as protected still needs to be checked and copied somewhere you control.
Do not format the memory card, reset the camera, clear app storage, or reinstall the app while the recording you need exists only there.
Save important footage first
Step 1: Write down what you are looking for
Record the approximate date, local time, location, and direction of travel. Include whether the vehicle was moving or parked and which camera angle is likely to show the incident. A short note such as “rear camera, parked, between 2:10 and 2:25 PM” gives you a useful search window.
If the dashcam clock appears wrong, write down the difference you observe. Search both the actual time and the time displayed by the camera. Changing the clock now will not correct the timestamp already embedded in an older recording.
Step 2: Mark the event if practical, then locate the actual files
Use the manual-record function appropriate to your installed model if you can do so safely. The model instructions below identify the relevant button or sensor. This can make a recording easier to find, but it is not a substitute for downloading it.
A manual-record command used after an incident may not reach far enough back to include the beginning. Search the regular driving or parking recordings as well. Do not conclude that footage is missing just because the event list is empty.
Step 3: Search a wider time window and every installed channel
Start several minutes before the incident and continue several minutes afterward. Dashcams save recordings in segments, so an event can cross from one file into the next. A vehicle approaching in the front view may only be identifiable in the rear view a few seconds later.
Check the front and rear channels separately. If you have a Drone XC2 or DR770X Box installation with an interior camera, include that channel where relevant. The availability of a camera channel depends on what is physically installed and working in your vehicle.
Step 4: Download the full recording
Use the instructions for your app below. Wait for each transfer to finish. Download every relevant channel and the surrounding clips, not just a thumbnail, notification image, or screen recording of playback.
For Drone XC2, the small cloud preview is useful for finding an event. Request the full-resolution version in the DroneMobile app when you need the available image detail. Drone documents local Wi-Fi and LTE retrieval for those event files; availability depends on connection and service. Drone XC2 video previews
Step 5: Verify the copy without relying on the camera
Open the downloaded file from the app’s saved area or the phone’s file or photo storage. Disconnect from the camera after transfers finish and check that the file still plays. Confirm the date, the correct angle, the beginning and end of the clip, and any expected audio.
If you exported several files, check more than the first one. A successful front-camera download does not prove the rear-camera file also transferred. A visible filename does not prove the download is complete.
Step 6: Keep an additional copy
Copy the original downloaded files to another location you control, such as a computer or your own private storage. Keep the originals unchanged. Make separate copies if you want to trim a clip, add an explanation, obscure personal details, or create a version that is easier to share.
When someone needs the available detail, share the original file or a private file-transfer link. Messaging services may reduce video quality. Confirm that the recipient can open the intended files and that access settings do not make unrelated footage public.
If you cannot download the footage
Avoid unnecessary recording while you work out the next step because loop recording can replace older files. If practical, park and shut down the camera using the approved procedure for your installation after the current recording has finished. The ignition being off does not necessarily mean a hardwired camera or battery-powered installation has stopped recording.
Do not pull out a card from a powered camera. If you are unsure how to shut yours down, call Kickin’ Customs at 617-431-6858 and explain that you need to preserve footage before troubleshooting. If the card is damaged or unreadable and the recording matters, stop repeated repair attempts and ask about an appropriate recovery path. Recovery is not guaranteed.
Find your dashcam and the correct instructions
Check the complete model name
Look at your installation paperwork, the camera information shown in its app, or a safely accessible product label. Keep the full model name, including terms such as Max, XC2, LTE, Plus II, Box, and Pro. Those details can change the controls, firmware, storage compatibility, and connection method.
Do not remove trim, pull wiring, or unmount a camera just to read a hidden label. We can help identify the system from the installation record or a clear photograph of the visible camera.
Your installed system | App and camera arrangement | Start here |
|---|---|---|
Momento M8 Max, MD-8400 | Momento app; our two-channel front and rear setup | M8 Max instructions, then phone connection and footage export |
Drone XC2, XC2-LTE | DroneMobile; front camera with rear and interior channels according to the installed package | XC2 instructions, then local video versus connected services |
BlackVue ELITE 9-2CH | BlackVue app; front and rear | ELITE 9 instructions, then BlackVue playback and parking modes |
BlackVue ELITE 10-2CH | BlackVue app; front and rear | ELITE 10 instructions, then BlackVue playback and parking modes |
BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE Plus II | BlackVue app; front and rear, with built-in LTE hardware | LTE Plus II instructions, then SIM and Cloud connection help |
BlackVue DR770X Box-3CH Pro | BlackVue app; separate recording box with front, rear, and interior cameras in our three-channel setup | Box Pro instructions, then channel checks and the supplied recording button |
Our M8 Max offering is a two-camera system. If your installation has three camera views, use the Drone XC2 or DR770X Box instructions that match your equipment. A generic manual illustration or an app menu showing another channel does not add a camera to your installation.
Record these details once
Keep a private note with the model, installed channels, app name, card capacity, parking mode, and whether power comes from the vehicle or a separate dashcam battery. If you use LTE or Cloud features, also record which account and service belong to the camera.
Keep passwords, activation details, and device identifiers private. You can supply the model and symptoms when requesting support without posting your account credentials or recording history.
Know what the camera is doing
Driving recording
A normally operating camera can record the drive without your phone remaining connected to its local Wi-Fi. The phone is the tool you use to view, download, and adjust the camera. It is not the memory card.
When checking the system, look for a recent recording from every installed channel. Lights and voice prompts help indicate status, but opening a current clip is a better check that the expected footage is actually being created.
Loop recording
The card has a finite capacity. As allocated recording space fills, older eligible files are replaced with newer recordings. That is why an old drive may disappear even though the camera is working as intended. Protected-event settings, recording categories, and reserved storage can change which files remain available. BlackVue documents this behavior in its video-management guidance. BlackVue playback and file management
There is no single number of days that every dashcam retains. Resolution, quality settings, active channels, driving time, parking activity, and card allocation all matter. More cameras and larger files can shorten the history stored on the same card.
Event and manual recordings
An event file identifies a recording associated with a detected trigger. A manual file identifies a recording requested through an owner control. Neither label guarantees that the important action is in frame, that a readable plate is visible, or that a permanent external backup exists.
Depending on the camera and mode, event footage can include video from before the trigger. That earlier video is called a buffer. A sleeping camera may have no earlier video to include. Check the specific parking-mode explanation before relying on a recording of the approach to the vehicle.
Parking recording
Parking mode changes how the camera operates after the vehicle is parked. It needs an appropriate power arrangement and configuration. Some modes save motion-triggered clips, some create time-lapse footage, and some reduce power by waking only for a trigger.
Parking coverage ends when the camera loses power or reaches an applicable shutdown condition. A camera can also be powered but unavailable for remote access because of its mode or connection state. Review the parking section for the distinction between recording availability and online availability.
Four things that are easy to confuse
What you see | What it tells you | What to verify next |
|---|---|---|
A notification | The app received information about an event or status | Whether the relevant video exists and which camera recorded it |
A video thumbnail or preview | The app has a representation of a clip | Whether you are viewing the original, a compressed preview, or a cloud copy |
A protected or event file | The file has a particular classification or protection setting | Whether you have downloaded a separate copy before that storage is changed or erased |
A camera shown as offline | The app cannot currently reach it through that connection | Whether local recording continues and whether a nearby Wi-Fi connection works |

Model-specific operating notes
Momento M8 Max
The M8 Max is our two-channel Momento setup, with a 4K front camera, Full HD rear camera, local Wi-Fi, and radar-based ECO parking capability. Its GPS capability should not be confused with a cellular service that lets you reach the vehicle remotely. Momento M8 Max product information
Manual recording: Tap REC. A long press has a different function. Connection: A short Wi-Fi-button press switches Wi-Fi on or off. Do not experiment with long presses; the M8 manual assigns a ten-second Wi-Fi hold to card formatting. M8 controls, page 21
Live View pauses recording on the M8. Close Live View after checking the image and verify recording resumes before relying on the camera. M8 Live View, page 10
For a first practice session, park and save a short front and rear clip that has no personal significance. Open the exported copies on your phone. This is a useful way to learn where files go before you urgently need a recording.
If the image looks different when exported, compare the complete saved frame with any display adjustment used in the app. Do not delete a file because the initial playback window appears cropped. Ask us to help check the recording if the view still seems wrong.
Drone XC2
Use the DroneMobile app and confirm the vehicle selected is the one containing your XC2. The XC2 can support front, rear, and interior inputs, but additional views require the corresponding installed cameras. A missing third view is not a fault if your package includes only two cameras. XC2 camera channels
Manual recording: Use the on-camera recording button. Check for the resulting manual clip before assuming it was captured. The desktop gallery can display manual recordings, but standard driving and motion recordings still require local Wi-Fi access through the app. DroneMobile XC2 gallery guidance
Treat local recordings, cloud previews, and downloaded originals as separate things. If a cloud preview shows the incident, retrieve the full-resolution clip in the app and check all relevant camera views. A brief preview that looks soft is not enough to judge the detail in the original footage.
An XC2 may operate as a dashcam installation or be integrated with compatible remote-start and alarm equipment. A camera in the DroneMobile app does not by itself establish which lock, start, or security functions your vehicle has. Use your installation record for those details.
Firmware must match XC2-LTE. Do not substitute files or reset instructions intended for the original XC-LTE. If your app or support article names a different generation, stop and confirm the correct instructions before proceeding.
BlackVue ELITE 9-2CH
Use the BlackVue app. The approved ELITE 9 configuration records front and rear views. BlackVue lists 4K front and 2K rear output, supported storage up to 1TB, and optional rather than built-in LTE connectivity for this model. ELITE 9 specifications
Manual recording: Use the touch sensor when that function is enabled. The side power button has a separate purpose. The manual specifies holding the power button for three seconds to turn the camera off; it also states that the camera cannot be turned back on with ACC off. Use the shutdown procedure demonstrated for your vehicle, and verify recording after restoring operation. ELITE 9 controls
Before leaving the vehicle for a long period, understand which parking mode is selected. Power Saving is intended to reduce consumption by sleeping until an impact, with no video buffer from before that trigger. Motion and time-lapse modes offer different recording behavior. ELITE 9 parking settings
For everyday checks, save a recent file from each channel and confirm that the rear camera gives the expected rearward view. Knowing that the front camera is working does not establish that the rear recording is present.
BlackVue ELITE 10-2CH
Use the BlackVue app. BlackVue lists 4K output from both cameras, supported storage up to 1TB, and an optional LTE module for the ELITE 10. The camera’s high-resolution local recordings and the quality of a remote stream are different things. ELITE 10 specifications
Manual recording: Use the enabled touch sensor. Power: The side button turns the camera off after a three-second hold; the manual limits switching it back on when ACC is off. Keep those actions distinct when reaching for a recording control. ELITE 10 controls
Power Saving does not provide footage from before an impact. BlackVue states that recording begins within two seconds after impact detection in that mode. Select a parking mode for the kind of footage you want, not just for the longest advertised standby time. ELITE 10 parking settings
When checking image quality, open the original downloaded file on a device capable of playing it. Do not judge a saved recording solely from a remote live stream or a heavily compressed message attachment. If a file plays poorly on one phone, keep the original and try the supported BlackVue viewing software before concluding that the camera failed.
BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE Plus II
Use the BlackVue app and match the complete DR970X-2CH LTE Plus II name. This is the front and rear configuration with built-in LTE hardware. Use the manual and service setup for the installed regional version; related DR970X models are not interchangeable instructions. LTE Plus II owner manual
Built-in LTE does not eliminate account activation or data-service requirements. If remote access stops, check the selected camera, its power state, mobile coverage, the SIM/data arrangement, and Cloud access. A nearby local connection is a separate way to check whether the camera is still recording.
The model’s documented parking choices include motion detection and time lapse. Do not apply the ELITE-series Power Saving description to this camera. Its touch-sensor recording function is configurable in the camera settings. Confirm that function is enabled before relying on it to mark a clip. LTE Plus II settings
For footage you already need, finish the backup before changing SIM settings, registration, firmware, or storage configuration. If you are uncertain whether the problem is the camera or the service account, tell us whether you can access current recordings locally. That observation narrows down the next step.
BlackVue DR770X Box-3CH Pro
This configuration uses a separate recording box and three cameras: front, rear, and interior. The memory card belongs to the recording box. A small camera at the windshield is not a separate memory-card recorder. Use the BlackVue app to check each installed channel. BlackVue lists up to 512GB storage for the Box Pro series. Box Pro specifications
Manual recording: Press the supplied EB-1/SOS recording button once it has been paired. The documented button function is manual recording. Treat it as a recording control; do not rely on its SOS label as a means of contacting emergency responders. Box Pro recording-button function
The manufacturer’s pairing process uses Bluetooth and verification with the SOS button. Follow the app’s prompt for your camera. A red low-battery indication on that button concerns the button battery, not a diagnosis of the vehicle battery. Box Pro pairing Box Pro indicators
The recording box and mounts have locks or tamper-resistant features. If you need card access, use the access method and keys supplied with your installation. Do not pry covers or pull the box out by its cables.
The Box Pro manual describes a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection rather than 5GHz. If a hotspot or phone configuration prevents a connection, confirm the supported network before changing other settings. Driver-monitoring and specialized truck-camera instructions elsewhere in the series manual only apply to those separately equipped configurations. Box Pro connection guide
Connect your phone and save a recording
Before opening the app
Park before using the phone. Have enough free phone storage for the clips you intend to save and enough charge to finish the transfer. Stay near the camera for a local Wi-Fi connection. Do not start with an app reinstall or a camera reset.
If the app requests permission to find nearby devices, use the local network, or save files, read the prompt and enable the permission needed for that action. The names of these permissions vary by phone and operating-system version. A denied local-network permission can prevent communication even when the phone appears connected to Wi-Fi.
A camera’s own Wi-Fi may show No Internet. That message can be normal for a direct connection. Check whether the app can reach the camera and play its files before treating the message as an error. If the phone offers to leave that network because it lacks internet, staying connected may be necessary to finish the local transfer.
Momento: camera gallery to saved files
- Connect to the M8 Wi-Fi network and choose M8 in the Momento app.
- Open Gallery. Select the date, time, and front or rear channel.
- Select the clips and use Download. Wait for completion.
- Open Saved and play the downloaded files.
- Use Export to place selected footage in the phone’s gallery or share it through the phone.
Gallery accesses camera footage; Saved holds downloaded videos that can play without the camera connection. Review the M8 manual’s illustrated workflow if your app layout differs. M8 gallery, download, and export, pages 11–15
After exporting, use the verification steps at the beginning of this page. Make sure you can identify where your phone stored the file and that the saved clip is the correct channel. Keep the recording in a second location before deleting the app’s copy.
DroneMobile: regular recordings and event previews
For regular driving or motion footage, select the correct vehicle in DroneMobile and establish the XC2’s local Wi-Fi connection. Open the camera’s recording browser, locate the relevant time and camera view, and use the available download control. Do not limit your search to the Cloud gallery, which does not contain every normal driving or parking-motion recording. DroneMobile local versus Cloud gallery
For an event found in Cloud previews, open the event in the app and request its full-resolution recording. Wait for the request and transfer to complete. Review the result before sharing it. The XC2’s small preview is intended for quick review and should not be treated as equivalent to the original recording. XC2 full-resolution retrieval
The exact screen names can change with app updates. Follow the distinction between camera storage, Cloud event material, and your downloaded files. If an account screen offers only a preview and you need the original, try the app’s full-resolution request or retrieve the file locally while it is still available.
BlackVue: camera playback to a downloaded copy
- Select the correct camera in the BlackVue app.
- Establish the nearby Wi-Fi connection for access to the SD-card video list. The camera’s Cloud storage is a separate destination.
- Open Playback or the SD-card video list, depending on the app layout.
- Search by date and recording type. Open the required channel and check the clip.
- Use the file’s download control to save it to the phone. Repeat for surrounding files and other angles.
- Open the app’s downloaded-video area and confirm playback after the transfer.
BlackVue distinguishes SD-card access, Cloud storage, and camera settings in its camera controls. Its model guide identifies Profile > Downloaded videos as a destination for downloaded footage in that app layout. BlackVue camera controls BlackVue downloaded videos
If your current app uses different labels, identify the actual storage location instead of relying on an icon alone. Do not use an Upload command when your intention is to save a file directly onto the phone, or assume a downloaded file has been shared externally.
BlackVue: an additional copy in My Drive
Where available in your account, BlackVue’s My Drive is a destination for footage you deliberately upload. From Playback, open the file menu, choose Upload to My Drive, and select the quality and camera direction offered. Wait for the upload and open the result. BlackVue My Drive workflow
Choose the available original or highest-quality option when preserving detail. Check both front and rear selections if those views matter. Do not count an upload as complete until you can open the resulting clip from its destination.
Live Event Upload is different. BlackVue describes automatic event uploads for Cloud-connected cameras, with retention that depends on the plan. Uploaded event videos can expire and be deleted. Check the event’s retention information and keep your own copy of anything important. BlackVue Cloud storage Live Event Upload retention
When wireless CarPlay or Android Auto competes with the connection
Your phone may reconnect to the vehicle’s wireless system instead of remaining on the camera network. While parked, temporarily disconnect the competing wireless session and reconnect to the dashcam. Restore your normal phone and vehicle connection afterward.
Do not apply one blanket instruction to disable Bluetooth on every brand. BlackVue uses Bluetooth during supported pairing, while the M8 troubleshooting guide discusses disabling Bluetooth to prevent a competing wireless vehicle connection. Follow the model’s pairing process first. M8 connection troubleshooting, page 22 BlackVue pairing
If the connection drops during a download, check the file at the destination. Download incomplete clips again. Avoid repeatedly switching apps or networks until the important files have finished transferring.
Use a computer when you need a larger backup
Before removing the card
Confirm that the camera has completely stopped recording and powered down according to its manual and your installation. A parking battery can keep a camera powered with the vehicle off. Wait for the shutdown to complete before removing the card.
Use accessible owner controls only. If reaching the card means opening a locked recording box, use the proper access key and the procedure supplied with your installation. If you cannot access it normally, ask us for help.
Copy without changing the originals
- Put the card in an appropriate reader connected to the computer.
- If the computer asks to format or repair the card and footage matters, cancel the prompt. Do not treat that message as an instruction to erase it.
- Create a clearly named folder for the backup, such as the vehicle nickname and incident date. Keep identifying information private.
- Copy the relevant files, or the complete card contents when you need a broader backup and have sufficient storage. Use copy, so the files remain on the card.
- Keep the original filenames and folder structure in the backup. Include related data files when copying the full card.
- Open the copies using the supported viewer or a compatible video player. Check more than one file and every relevant camera channel.
- Keep a second copy if the footage is important. Only then consider card maintenance or replacement.
If a copied file cannot play on one computer, that alone does not prove it is damaged. High-resolution video and some encoding formats require compatible playback support. Keep the original unchanged and check it with the manufacturer’s supported software. BlackVue provides its app and desktop viewing software through its official download resources. BlackVue App and Viewer
Reinstall the card and verify recording
Safely eject the card from the computer. Reinsert it only while the camera is off, using the correct orientation and without force. Restore camera power, allow startup to finish, and check a newly recorded clip from each installed channel.
If you keep the original card aside to preserve incident footage, the camera needs a separately approved and prepared replacement card before it can resume normal card recording. Ask us to match the replacement to the exact model. An empty slot does not provide the same recording function as a working card.
When to stop handling the card
Stop if the card becomes intermittently unreadable, produces repeated errors, or cannot copy an important file reliably. Repeated formatting, file-repair programs, or repeated recording onto the same card can complicate preservation. Tell support what has already been attempted before trying another procedure.

Understand parking mode and its limits
Start with the power arrangement
Your camera may be hardwired to a managed vehicle power supply or connected through a separate dashcam battery. Other power arrangements may behave differently. Know which one you have before deciding that a camera shutting off is a fault.
Parking recording needs power after the vehicle is shut down and a supported way to enter the intended mode. A cable that turns off with the ignition cannot provide ongoing parking recording by itself. Conversely, power that remains available does not prove the camera has entered the correct parking mode.
Know which kind of footage your mode creates
Parking approach | What the mode is intended to do | What the owner should understand |
|---|---|---|
Motion detection | Save clips associated with visible motion | Moving foliage, shadows, rain, and traffic can create activity. A quiet scene may produce fewer files. |
Time lapse | Show a period of parking with fewer frames | Fast movements and audio behavior depend on the model. A time-lapse sequence is different from continuous real-time video. |
Impact-triggered sleeping mode | Reduce consumption by waking for a detected impact | It may miss the approach and the first part of the incident. Check whether pre-trigger footage exists in that exact mode. |
Radar-assisted ECO operation | Use radar as part of the camera’s parking detection strategy | Radar detection is not a guarantee that every person, vehicle, or contact will create the desired recording. |
Off or shutdown | Stop the relevant recording operation | A power cutoff, timer, depleted battery, or disabled parking mode can leave a period without footage. |
What applies to this lineup
M8 Max: The manual lists ECO radar, motion, time lapse, and Off settings. Use the configuration demonstrated at pickup. M8 parking settings, page 17
Drone XC2: The manufacturer lists Event, Motion + Event, Full Event, and Time Lapse + Event options. It describes different event capture behavior and a Power Saving setting that can temporarily disable GPS and Wi-Fi at a selected voltage. Those settings should be reviewed for your installed power arrangement. XC2 parking and power settings
ELITE 9 and ELITE 10: Motion detection, time lapse, and Power Saving are different choices. Power Saving sleeps until impact detection and has no pre-trigger buffer. Do not use a general statement about buffered BlackVue events to describe that mode. ELITE 9 settings ELITE 10 settings
DR970X-2CH LTE Plus II: Use the motion or time-lapse behavior documented for the installed camera. Do not assume it has the ELITE-series sleeping mode. LTE Plus II settings
DR770X Box-3CH Pro: Its manual documents parking motion and impact recording. Confirm the configured mode and all three camera channels on the installed system. Do not infer ELITE-series controls from the shared BlackVue app. Box Pro recording modes
Low-voltage cutoff is a limit, not a runtime promise
A configured voltage threshold can shut the camera down when the monitored supply reaches that level. A timer can stop parking operation after a selected duration. The first applicable shutdown condition can determine when recording ends. BlackVue describes these controls in its parking settings. Parking battery protection
The actual result depends on the vehicle battery’s condition, temperature, recent charging, other electrical loads, and installation. A setting intended to limit discharge cannot guarantee that an aging or weak vehicle battery will start the vehicle later.
Do not lower the cutoff or disable protection just to extend recording. If coverage is shorter than expected, record the approximate shutdown time and conditions so we can review the cause and the appropriate configuration.
A separate dashcam battery still has finite capacity
A compatible dashcam battery can supply the camera while parked and recharge through the installed charging arrangement. Its available runtime depends on the charge it actually received, the cameras and accessories connected, their mode, and temperature.
Short trips may not replace all the energy used during a long parking period. A battery that charges on one long trip can behave differently after several days of short journeys. Compare similar conditions before deciding the battery has lost capacity.
BlackVue’s B-130A runtime advertising is tied to specific camera and operating assumptions. It is not a promise for every two- or three-camera installation with LTE enabled. We can review a suitable power arrangement for your vehicle and the coverage you want. BlackVue B-130A product information
If your battery is a BlackVue B-130A
Use the BlackVue app to access BlackVue Battery and select the correct battery. The B-130A manual specifically distinguishes this from the separate legacy BlackVue Battery App, which does not support the B-130A. Bluetooth identification helps you choose the intended battery when more than one device appears. B-130A app and status instructions
Review the displayed status while the vehicle is charging the pack and again after a known parking interval. Keep those observations for support. Do not change charging current, wiring, or switches without checking the arrangement installed in your vehicle. An estimated remaining time is a current estimate, not a guaranteed recording deadline.
Remote access while parked
A connected camera still needs power, a usable network connection, the appropriate account service, and a mode that permits the requested function. A vehicle hotspot may turn off with the vehicle. A sleeping camera may not offer the same access as one actively recording.
For a practical check, test remote access after parking in the location you actually use, then compare that result with local access when you return. Tell us the parking mode and time elapsed if the camera becomes unreachable. Do not assume that a Cloud subscription prevents the camera from shutting down.
Before long-term storage
Ask us to review a power plan if the vehicle will sit for an extended period. Parking surveillance, maintaining the vehicle battery, and charging a separate dashcam pack are related but distinct concerns. Do not assume occasional remote starts will provide the charging time or conditions required for your setup.
Save existing footage before changing modes. Record the original settings if a temporary configuration is selected. When the vehicle returns to normal use, verify the intended mode and check new driving footage from every channel.
Understand Wi-Fi, LTE, GPS, and Cloud services
Each connection has a different job
Feature | What it does | What it does not establish by itself |
|---|---|---|
Direct camera Wi-Fi | Connects a nearby phone to the camera for supported local functions | Internet access, off-site viewing, or a complete cloud backup |
Bluetooth | Helps supported devices discover, pair, or report accessory information | A high-bandwidth video link or remote cellular access |
GPS | Supplies supported location, speed, and time information | A mobile-data subscription or remote access to the camera |
LTE or an internet hotspot | Gives a compatible camera a path to online services | An activated account, available plan features, or unlimited video retention |
Cloud service | Provides the account’s supported online viewing, upload, or storage features | Permanent retention of every recording or operation after the camera loses power |
DroneMobile service checks
Open the account associated with the installed vehicle and review its active services. Video streaming and Cloud functions require the appropriate service; do not infer those entitlements from a working lock or remote-start button. Current plan options and allowances are shown in DroneMobile’s official account and subscription information. DroneMobile services
If the camera is online but notifications are missing, check the selected vehicle’s alert settings and the phone’s notification permissions. DroneMobile documents Setup > Vehicles > Alerts, with available alerts depending on hardware and installation. DroneMobile alert setup
If several connected functions stop at the same time, check the official service-status page before changing the camera’s settings. A platform interruption and a local hardware problem require different next steps. DroneMobile service status
BlackVue connection and service checks
For ELITE 9 and ELITE 10, a compatible optional LTE module or another supported internet source is needed for remote connectivity. For the LTE Plus II, the LTE hardware is built in. A Box Pro installation requires its configured compatible internet connection for Cloud access. ELITE 9 specifications ELITE 10 specifications LTE Plus II connectivity Box Pro Cloud setup
Keep the camera hardware, SIM/data arrangement, and Cloud account features separate when checking an issue. Paying for one component does not necessarily activate every other component. Use the activation instructions supplied for the actual module and regional service; do not enter settings copied from an unrelated camera or carrier.
BlackVue identifies My Drive and Live Event Upload as different storage areas. Before concluding a video is absent, check the correct location and the applicable retention. Before concluding it is safely backed up, open the saved video and check its quality and camera direction. BlackVue Cloud storage areas
Keep access under your control
Use an account you control and store credentials securely. Review shared access when a driver leaves the household, a phone is replaced, or the vehicle changes owners. Use the platform’s supported sharing tools where available instead of giving another person your main password.
For a used vehicle with an account still registered to a previous owner, contact support for the legitimate transfer process. A factory reset is not a substitute for resolving account ownership and may remove settings you need.
If you plan to sell or trade the vehicle, save your footage first, then arrange removal of personal recordings and account access. Confirm recurring services separately; removing a camera from an app and canceling a paid subscription are not necessarily the same action.
Check storage, settings, and software
Use a card that matches the camera
Choose a manufacturer-supported card suitable for the exact model and continuous dashcam recording. Capacity alone is not a compatibility test. The card type, recording demands, firmware support, and preparation method matter as well.
Model | Capacity documented in the reviewed source | Owner action |
|---|---|---|
Momento M8 Max / M8 manual | Up to 256GB | Use an approved card and the M8 preparation instructions. M8 specifications |
Drone XC2 | Up to 512GB | Match XC2 requirements, not assumptions from the original XC. XC2 specifications |
BlackVue ELITE 9-2CH | Up to 1TB | Match the approved card and the installed firmware. ELITE 9 specifications |
BlackVue ELITE 10-2CH | Up to 1TB | Match the approved card and the installed firmware. ELITE 10 specifications |
BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE Plus II | Confirm against the exact regional model and current manufacturer card guidance | Ask us to verify the replacement before purchasing or inserting it. |
BlackVue DR770X Box-3CH Pro | Up to 512GB | Use Box Pro compatibility guidance and the recording box’s card slot. Box Pro specifications |
These are compatibility limits, not statements about the card included with your installation or how many days of footage it will retain. Check your installed card before planning a backup or replacement.
Know when formatting is appropriate
Formatting prepares or refreshes the card’s file system and removes its recordings. It is a storage-maintenance action, not the first step in looking for missing incident footage. Copy and verify anything important before formatting, including files marked as protected.
Follow the exact camera’s instructions or ask us to perform the procedure. BlackVue’s ELITE 10 guide documents formatting through the app or supported viewer and explicitly states that locked events are deleted too. That instruction should not be replaced by a generic long-button press intended for another model. ELITE 10 formatting
After formatting, make a short new recording and confirm playback from every installed camera. If the same errors return, report the symptoms instead of repeatedly erasing the card.
Understand storage allocation
Some cameras divide storage between different recording categories. More space reserved for parking does not create more total capacity. It changes how the available card is used. Before changing any allocation, copy important footage and review whether the camera will reinitialize storage.
Do not change recording quality, allocation, or other storage-related settings while preserving the only copy of an incident. Some setup workflows can prompt a format when applying changes. Read the actual prompt before confirming.
Update the app and firmware deliberately
An app update changes the phone software. A firmware update changes software inside the camera. Updating one does not necessarily update the other.
Before a camera update, preserve important footage, identify the complete model and regional variant, and read the official instructions and release notes. Use a stable power arrangement appropriate to the installation. Do not pull the card, disconnect power, or assume a transfer-complete message means the camera has finished applying the update.
BlackVue’s ELITE 10 instructions require power to remain available until normal recording starts after an upgrade. Use the equivalent model-specific guidance for the other cameras. ELITE 10 firmware instructions
After an update, check the displayed firmware version, recording from every channel, date and time, audio preference, parking configuration, and any connected services you use. If the interface changes, confirm where downloads now appear before relying on a familiar icon.
Keep the time and audio settings intentional
Compare a newly recorded clip with the actual local time after setup, a firmware change, a long period out of use, or travel across time zones. Set the correct time zone and daylight-saving behavior for your camera rather than leaving an incorrect fixed offset in place.
Choose whether audio recording is appropriate for how the vehicle is used, and review recording requirements in the places you travel. Tell other drivers how the camera is configured. A visible video image does not tell you whether audio is being recorded.
If the timestamp or audio setting was wrong during an incident, preserve the original recording and make a separate note of what you observed. Changing settings now does not recover audio that was never recorded or rewrite the facts of the original file.
Check the picture and the installation
Review actual saved footage
Open a recent daytime clip and a recent nighttime clip from each camera. Look for an unobstructed view, a stable image, and the intended camera direction. Use saved original files when comparing image quality, since app previews, streams, and message attachments can look different.
A high-resolution camera cannot guarantee a readable plate in every scene. Distance, speed, darkness, headlights, glare, weather, glass, tint, and viewing angle all affect what is captured. Increasing brightness or digital zoom cannot reliably recreate detail the camera did not record.
Check the view without disturbing the installation
Make sure a sunshade, windshield sticker, hanging accessory, cargo, or rear-window item has not blocked the lens. If there is visible dust or a smear, follow the camera maker’s cleaning guidance and use suitable lens-cleaning materials. Avoid pushing on the mount or spraying liquid into the camera.
Reflections or a dark rear view may involve the glass, tint, lighting, camera position, or a fitted lens accessory. Ask us to review examples before changing the aim or adding a filter. A filter that fits one camera is not automatically appropriate for another.
Interior infrared views can look different at night. If the cabin picture changes to a monochrome appearance, compare it with the model’s intended night operation before assuming a fault. Position and reflections still matter. Do not redirect an interior camera through glass and expect the same result without a configuration review.
After windshield work, tint, detailing, or vehicle service
Tell the service provider that the vehicle has a dashcam and, where applicable, a separate battery and rear or interior cameras. Ask them to avoid pulling the camera wiring or moving mounts unnecessarily. Arrange any required removal or reinstallation with a qualified installer.
Afterward, check the front view, rear view, and interior view if installed. Confirm that power and recording have resumed. A camera can still connect to the app while pointing at the wrong area or missing a disconnected channel.
The dashcam is separate from the vehicle’s factory driver-assistance cameras. Windshield replacement or related work may have its own manufacturer requirements. Do not move factory sensors or assume a dashcam check replaces the vehicle service provider’s procedures.

Troubleshoot by what you are seeing
The camera has no lights or startup message
Check: Is the vehicle on or parked? Is parking operation supposed to be available through the installed power arrangement? Have the camera’s indicators or voice messages been disabled? If there is a separate battery, note whether its status can be checked normally.
Try: With the vehicle safely parked, start the normal operating sequence demonstrated at pickup and allow the camera to finish booting. Check the app and a current recording if accessible. Avoid probing fuse panels or repeatedly unplugging wiring.
Contact us when: The camera does not return to normal driving operation, or it stopped after service work or a battery issue. Tell us when it last recorded and whether any other vehicle electrical symptoms appeared.
The camera keeps restarting or repeating a warning
Check: Record the exact message and whether the restart occurs while driving, when parking begins, or while an accessory is used. Note any recent card replacement, firmware change, service visit, or unusually hot conditions.
Try: Preserve accessible recordings and observe one normal startup. If the device gives a card warning, follow the card-error guidance below. Do not cycle power repeatedly or begin several different resets at once.
Contact us when: Restarting continues or new clips are incomplete. Supply the model, the warning, and whether every camera channel is affected. A repeating symptom deserves a power, storage, or device review rather than repeated trial-and-error changes.
The camera says the memory card is missing or faulty
Check: Is the correct card installed, and was it recently removed or changed? If important footage is on it, treat preservation as the first task.
Try: Fully shut down the camera before inspecting an accessible card. If the card can be read on a computer, copy important files before following any format instruction. Cancel a computer’s automatic format prompt if you still need the contents.
Contact us when: The card remains unreadable, errors return after the approved preparation procedure, or the same issue appears with a verified compatible replacement. Tell us the card brand, capacity, and any steps already taken.
My phone cannot find the camera’s Wi-Fi
Check: Confirm the model, power state, and that its Wi-Fi is enabled. Stay near the vehicle. A sleeping or low-power state may affect availability. Make sure you are looking for the camera network rather than the vehicle’s normal hotspot.
Try: Follow the model’s connection instructions. For supported BlackVue pairing, leave Bluetooth available as prompted. For M8 connection conflicts, review the competing wireless-vehicle connection. Refresh the phone’s network list after the camera is ready.
Contact us when: The expected network remains absent during normal powered operation. Include the phone model and whether another already authorized phone can see the camera.
The phone joins Wi-Fi but the app cannot connect
Check: Confirm the app is for the installed camera and the correct model is selected. Review local-network or nearby-device permissions. Make sure the phone has not silently returned to a home network or wireless vehicle connection.
Try: Stay on the camera network if the phone warns that it has no internet. Close and reopen the app, then try the local recording list again. If a managed phone, VPN, or security profile appears involved, follow its approved support process instead of changing protected settings blindly.
Contact us when: The phone remains connected to the intended network but cannot access recordings. Do not factory-reset the camera or erase the app’s stored clips to troubleshoot this first.
Downloads fail, stop partway, or never appear on the phone
Check: Verify free phone storage, adequate charge, and an uninterrupted local connection. Check whether the download destination is inside the camera app or in the phone’s files or photos. Review file-saving permissions where requested.
Try: Download one short clip first, keep the app open, and wait for completion. Open that file after disconnecting from the camera. If it works, continue with the remaining clips and channels in manageable groups.
Contact us when: Repeated transfers fail under a stable connection or only particular files cannot be copied. Keep those originals on the card and describe any error message.
I can see a preview, but the important detail is unclear
Check: Identify whether you are viewing a Cloud preview, live stream, local original, exported file, or compressed message attachment. These may have different quality.
Try: Retrieve the available original recording. For XC2 Cloud events, request the full-resolution version in the app. Check adjacent files and another camera angle. Play the original on an appropriate screen before judging it from a small preview.
Contact us when: Original footage is consistently poor under ordinary conditions. Keep sample files showing daytime and nighttime results if available. Do not overwrite or edit the only incident recording while experimenting with enhancement tools.
I cannot find the incident at the expected time
Check: Confirm the selected vehicle, camera channel, date filter, and event-type filter. Compare the camera’s displayed clock with actual local time. Search regular driving or parking recordings in addition to events.
Try: Expand the time window and inspect the clips before and after the expected moment. If the incident happened near midnight or the clock was wrong, check the neighboring date. Review any downloaded or Cloud copies separately.
Contact us when: You cannot locate the recording and need help preserving the remaining card contents. Tell us how long the camera continued recording afterward. A file that was never recorded or has been overwritten may not be recoverable.
There is front footage but no rear or interior video
Check: Confirm those additional cameras are part of your installed package. Select the other channel explicitly, clear filters, and check a recent recording time. Do not infer channel count from app menus.
Try: Review whether the problem started after window work, moving cargo, or vehicle service. Look for a visibly displaced camera or obstructed view without pulling cables or opening trim. Compare several recent recording segments.
Contact us when: An installed channel is consistently absent, black, frozen, or replaced by an error. Tell us which channels still work and when the affected one last recorded normally.
The camera stops recording soon after I park
Check: Confirm parking mode is enabled and note the selected mode. Record the approximate time between parking and shutdown. Note recent trip length, temperature, and whether a vehicle battery or separate pack supplies parking power.
Try: Check the existing timer and battery status without lowering voltage protection. Compare a similar parking interval after a normal longer drive if practical. Look for a consistent cutoff point rather than assuming every gap has the same cause.
Contact us when: Runtime changes sharply, the vehicle shows a battery warning, or the selected mode does not behave as demonstrated. Bring the observations so we can review power and configuration.
There are parking files, but no footage before an impact
Check: Identify the exact mode active at the time. A sleeping impact-triggered mode differs from a camera continuously buffering video. The presence of an event file does not prove earlier frames existed.
Try: Search the neighboring regular or parking clips and other channels. For future use, discuss which mode best fits the need to see an approach, while accounting for power consumption.
Contact us when: You want to change the balance between available context and parking runtime. Do not test by striking the vehicle or assume raising sensitivity can create video from before the camera woke.
The camera produces too many parking events
Check: Separate motion recordings from impact events. Look for patterns involving nearby traffic, changing light, trees, rain, or vibration. Save a few representative clips instead of deleting everything immediately.
Try: Discuss the configured sensitivity and available motion zones for the model. Make one documented change at a time if instructed, then compare similar conditions. Remember that more sensitivity can increase activity without improving the desired evidence.
Contact us when: Events are excessive, useful recordings are difficult to find, or the camera appears to react to routine conditions unusually often. Do not disable all detection just to stop notifications without understanding what coverage will be lost.
The camera is offline in Cloud, but local recordings work
Check: Confirm the right account and camera, the active data and Cloud services, and the expected internet source. Note whether the problem occurs only in a particular garage or after the vehicle hotspot turns off.
Try: Compare local access and remote access in an area with ordinary service, without driving while using the app. Check official service status where available. Review whether the selected parking mode affects connectivity.
Contact us when: Remote access consistently fails despite normal local operation and the correct active service. Provide the last successful connection time and the displayed status. This helps separate a recording problem from an online-service problem.
Notifications are missing, late, or different from the recordings
Check: Review the app’s vehicle-specific alert settings, phone notification permissions, and focus or notification-silencing settings. Confirm that the camera was online when the event happened and that the selected service includes the expected feature.
Try: Inspect the actual recording and event history. A delayed notification does not establish the exact recording time. Use the supported test process demonstrated for the installed system, without deliberately damaging or startling anyone around the vehicle.
Contact us when: Supported alerts remain inconsistent. Tell us whether video events exist locally and whether other connected commands still work. Avoid changing sensor and phone settings simultaneously, which makes comparison difficult.
The recording button does nothing
Check: Match the control to the exact model. A touch sensor may be disabled in settings. The Box Pro’s separate button must be paired and have adequate button-battery power. The camera itself must also be operating.
Try: While parked, use the intended manual-record action once and then check for a newly created manual clip. Allow enough time for the file to finish. Do not hold unfamiliar buttons while waiting for a response.
Contact us when: No manual file appears or the supplied button shows a warning. Keep using the normal recording browser to retrieve existing footage. A recording-control problem does not justify formatting the card.
Audio is missing, or the camera unexpectedly records sound
Check: Review the camera’s audio-recording setting separately from speaker volume and phone playback volume. Confirm whether the selected recording mode includes audio. A muted player and a recording made without audio are different situations.
Try: With the vehicle parked, make a short appropriate test recording and play the saved file. Confirm the result matches the intended privacy setting. Explain that configuration to other drivers.
Contact us when: New recordings still behave differently from the selected setting. Preserve existing footage first. Audio that was disabled during an earlier recording cannot be added afterward by changing the setting.
The date, time, speed display, or route looks wrong
Check: Verify local time, the selected time zone, daylight-saving behavior, and units. Check whether a displayed map or location is current or associated with an older file. Indoor or obstructed conditions can affect satellite reception.
Try: Preserve any incident files before changing settings. Compare a new recording after the camera has operated normally in an open area. Use MPH or km/h consistently when checking a displayed speed.
Contact us when: Time repeatedly resets or supported location information stays unavailable in normal conditions. Include a sample filename and the difference between actual time and the displayed timestamp. Avoid treating a camera overlay as a guaranteed measurement.
Video is dark, blurry, reflected, upside down, or badly aimed
Check: Open the original file and inspect the lens view for obstructions, smears, reflections, changed camera position, or recent tint and glass work. Determine whether the issue affects one camera or all of them.
Try: Compare a daytime and nighttime sample. Check the relevant view or rotation setting only after preserving important footage. Use appropriate lens-cleaning guidance and avoid moving secured mounts without a plan for restoring alignment.
Contact us when: The original image remains poor or the camera has moved. Send a representative sample privately if requested. Do not assume a larger card or Cloud-plan upgrade will fix an obstructed or misaligned view.
A separate dashcam battery shows little charge or short runtime
Check: Confirm the exact battery model and correct app. Note recent driving time, charging status during a trip, temperature, and the number of connected cameras and accessories. Do not confuse a wireless recording-button battery with the parking power pack.
Try: Record the displayed charge before and after normal use and after a measured parking interval. For B-130A, use the BlackVue app’s battery function. Treat any runtime estimate as conditional.
Contact us when: The pack does not show charging during the expected conditions, shuts down unusually quickly, or repeatedly shows a fault. Do not increase charging current or alter wiring to solve it yourself.
The problem started after a phone change, update, or vehicle service
Check: Identify exactly what changed and whether local recordings still work. On a replacement phone, confirm the correct app, existing account, and permissions. After vehicle service, check whether camera power, aim, or a channel changed.
Try: Restore the normal supported connection process without deleting the existing account or factory-resetting the camera. After a completed firmware update, verify the model information and fresh recordings. Preserve old files before any storage-related repair.
Contact us when: Access, settings, or recording do not return to normal. Tell us the change, date, phone or firmware version if known, and steps already attempted. That history helps us avoid repeating ineffective actions.
