The short answer
Paint protection film comes with different types of coverage, and they are not all the same.
One of the most common points of confusion is the difference between a manufacturer warranty, workmanship coverage, and a shop-specific replacement benefit.
They each serve a different purpose.
Understanding that difference before installation makes it much easier to know what happens if there is ever a problem later.
Warranty and workmanship
What Does the Manufacturer Warranty Cover?
XPEL paint protection film includes a 10-year manufacturer warranty against covered product defects.
That generally relates to issues with the film itself, such as certain types of yellowing, cracking, blistering, or delamination.
The important thing to understand is that a manufacturer warranty is not the same as accidental-damage protection.
If the film is damaged by road debris, an impact, a scrape, or another outside cause, that is usually not considered a manufacturing defect.
The film may still have done its job by taking the damage instead of the paint.
What About Installation Workmanship?
Workmanship is separate from the manufacturer warranty.
At Kickin’ Customs, we require a complimentary 3-week inspection for our workmanship coverage.
That inspection gives us a chance to look over the installation after the film has had time to settle.
We can review:
- Edges
- Corners
- Alignment
- Settling
- Any installation concerns that may have developed during curing
That follow-up is important because some things are easier to address early.
Then What Is the No-Fault Replacement Benefit?
Our No-Fault Replacement Benefit is separate from both the manufacturer warranty and our workmanship coverage.
Qualifying PPF installations of $495 or more include a one-time benefit of up to $250 toward a future PPF replacement.
The important difference is this:
The replacement does not have to be caused by a manufacturer defect.
The benefit is designed to help when a piece of film needs to be replaced for another reason.
That can make it useful in situations where the manufacturer warranty would not normally apply.
Replacement assistance
Why Offer a Separate Replacement Benefit?
PPF is a sacrificial layer.
Its purpose is to take damage before the paint does.
That means there are times when the film may need to be replaced even though nothing is technically “wrong” with the product.
For example, a section of film may take a hard impact or be damaged during normal vehicle use.
In those situations, the manufacturer warranty may not apply because the film itself was not defective.
That is where a separate shop benefit can add value.
Three Different Types of Coverage
The easiest way to think about it is like this:
Manufacturer Warranty
Covers qualifying defects in the film itself.
Workmanship Coverage
Covers qualifying concerns related to how the film was installed.
No-Fault Replacement Benefit
Provides up to $250 toward one qualifying future PPF replacement, even when the reason is not a manufacturer defect.
They are related, but they are not interchangeable.
What the No-Fault Benefit Does Not Mean
It is not unlimited replacement coverage.
It is also not an insurance policy.
The benefit applies to qualifying original Kickin’ Customs installations and is subject to the written terms.
It also does not replace a manufacturer warranty or a valid workmanship claim.
If a problem is actually covered under one of those, it should be handled under the correct type of coverage.

Compare your support
Why This Matters When Comparing PPF Shops
Two shops may both use the same film.
They may even offer similar installation packages.
But the support after the job can still be very different.
When comparing quotes, ask:
- What does the manufacturer warranty cover?
- What does the shop cover as workmanship?
- Is a follow-up inspection required?
- What happens if the film gets damaged but is not defective?
- Does the shop offer any additional replacement assistance?
Those are practical questions.
They tell you what happens after the vehicle leaves the shop.
A Real-World Example
Imagine a front bumper has PPF installed.
A few months later, a piece of road debris damages the film badly enough that the section should be replaced.
The film may have done exactly what it was supposed to do.
That does not automatically make it a manufacturer-warranty issue.
It may not be a workmanship issue either.
In that situation, a separate replacement benefit may be the only applicable support available from the installer.
That is the gap our No-Fault Replacement Benefit is designed to help with.
Why We Keep the Coverage Separate
We think customers should know exactly which type of coverage applies to which situation.
Calling everything a “warranty” can create confusion.
That is why we separate:
- Product defects
- Installation workmanship
- Accidental or unrelated replacement needs
Each one has its own purpose.
Final Thoughts
A long warranty sounds good, but the number of years does not tell the whole story.
The more important question is:
What happens if something actually goes wrong?
At Kickin’ Customs, qualifying PPF customers have three different layers of support depending on the situation: the applicable XPEL manufacturer warranty, our workmanship coverage with the required 3-week inspection, and our one-time No-Fault Replacement Benefit of up to $250.
They are different types of coverage, and that is exactly why they work well together.
The applicable manufacturer warranty depends on the exact film installed and its written terms. The No-Fault Replacement Benefit is for the original customer on a qualifying original installation, and insurance claims are excluded. Review the complete terms before requesting replacement assistance.
