The short answer
Window tint quotes can look similar at first.
A customer may see the same brand name on two estimates and assume the services are equal.
Sometimes they are.
Sometimes they are not.
The better way to compare window tint is to look at the exact film, the glass included, the installation process, and what happens after the job is complete.
Film and coverage
Start With the Exact Film
The brand name alone does not tell you everything.
Most manufacturers offer more than one automotive window film.
At Kickin’ Customs, for example, we offer multiple XPEL PRIME options with different levels of heat rejection and performance.
That means two shops can both say they install XPEL while quoting different products.
Before comparing prices, ask:
- What exact film is being installed?
- Is it a dyed film or ceramic film?
- What performance level does it offer?
- Is the film clearly listed on the estimate?
That gives you a much better comparison than brand name alone.
Make Sure the Same Windows Are Included
A quote for “full tint” can mean different things depending on the shop.
One quote may include all side and rear windows.
Another may include the windshield.
Another may exclude a panoramic roof or specialty glass.
Before comparing prices, confirm exactly which pieces of glass are included.
That may include:
- Front two windows
- Rear side windows
- Rear glass
- Full windshield
- Windshield strip
- Sunroof
- Panoramic roof
If the coverage is different, the prices should not be compared as though they are the same service.
Ask Whether Old Film Removal Is Included
If the vehicle already has tint, removal can add time and labor.
Some old film comes off relatively easily.
Other film can leave behind adhesive or create additional cleanup work.
Rear glass can require extra care because of the defroster lines.
One shop may include removal in the quote.
Another may price it separately.
Make sure you know which applies before comparing totals.
Shade Selection Matters
Choosing a tint percentage should not be guesswork.
The final appearance depends on several things, including the film, the existing glass, the vehicle interior, and the amount of factory privacy glass already present.
That is why seeing samples in person can be helpful.
At Kickin’ Customs, we review shade options with the customer before installation.
The goal is to make sure the customer understands how the vehicle is likely to look before the film goes on.
Installation and support
Factory Privacy Glass Is Not the Same as Aftermarket Film
Many SUVs and trucks come with dark rear glass from the factory.
That does not automatically mean the glass offers the same performance as ceramic window film.
Factory privacy glass is primarily designed to darken the appearance of the glass.
A ceramic film can be added for additional heat rejection and UV protection.
If one quote includes film over privacy glass and another does not, that can also change the price and performance.
Windshield Tint Should Be Compared Separately
The windshield is a different type of installation from the side windows.
It is larger, curved, and may contain sensors, cameras, electronics, or other areas that require additional care.
If you are comparing a full-vehicle tint package, confirm whether the windshield is included and which film is being used there.
Do not assume it is automatically part of the package.
Installation Quality Still Matters
The film itself is only part of the service.
The installation matters too.
A professional tint installation should include proper glass preparation, accurate film fitting, careful handling around trim, and a final inspection before the vehicle leaves.
You should also know what to expect during the curing period.
Temporary haze or moisture can be normal immediately after installation.
The shop should explain that before you leave.
Ask About the Warranty
If a film includes a manufacturer warranty, ask what it actually covers.
Depending on the product, covered defects may include issues such as bubbling, peeling, fading, discoloration, or delamination.
Ask:
- How long is the applicable warranty?
- Who handles a future claim?
- Do you return to the installer?
- What documentation should you keep?
A warranty is much more useful when you know how to use it.

Compare the details
Ask About Accidental Damage Too
Manufacturer warranties are designed for covered product defects.
They generally do not exist to cover every type of customer-caused damage.
That is why it is worth asking whether the shop offers any additional protection.
Qualifying Kickin’ Customs installations include our Window Film Replacement Benefit, which can provide one replacement on one covered roll-down side window during the eligible three-year term for qualifying accidental or customer-caused damage.
That is separate from the XPEL manufacturer warranty.
Practical Window Tint Quote Checklist
When comparing estimates, answer the same questions for each shop.
Film
- What exact film is being installed?
- Is it ceramic or non-ceramic?
- Is the product name listed on the quote?
- What heat-rejection level does it offer?
Coverage
- Which windows are included?
- Is the rear glass included?
- Is the windshield included?
- Is a sunroof or panoramic roof included?
- Is film being added over factory privacy glass?
Existing Tint
- Is old film removal included?
- Is adhesive cleanup included?
- Are there additional charges if removal is difficult?
- How is rear defroster glass handled?
Installation
- How is shade selected?
- Are samples available?
- Is the film cut specifically for the vehicle?
- What should you expect during curing?
Support
- What manufacturer warranty applies?
- Who handles a future warranty concern?
- Does the shop offer any additional replacement benefit?
- What happens if one window is damaged later?
Final Price
- What is the total?
- What is not included?
- Could removal or specialty glass add cost?
- Are both quotes truly for the same film and same coverage?
If those answers are different, the quotes are different too.
Why Kickin’ Customs Quotes May Be Different
Our tint pricing reflects the exact film, the glass being covered, the installation work involved, and the support that comes afterward.
We are not trying to make every quote the cheapest.
We want customers to understand exactly what they are buying.
If another shop is less expensive, that does not automatically mean the work is inferior.
It may simply be a different film, different coverage, or different level of support.
That is why the details matter.
Final Thoughts
When comparing window tint quotes, do not stop at the brand name.
Compare the exact film, the glass included, removal work, shade selection, installation process, warranty, and after-sale support.
Once those details match, the price comparison becomes much more useful.
The goal is not simply to find the lowest number.
It is to know what that number actually includes.
